Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) and RNIB are collaborating with organisations from both the sight loss and wider charity sector as well as corporate organisations to create new opportunities for blind and partially sighted people to find employment through the Get Set Progress (GSP) Internship programme. Support 4 Sight is delighted to be offering an internship as part of the Get Set Progress scheme.
Support 4 Sight is a sight loss charity that supports people in mid and west Essex coming to terms with losing their sight and coping long-term with the social, emotional and practical issues they face living with sight loss. We provide information, advice, guidance, emotional support, practical help and social activities to those living with blindness, partial sight and reduced vision, and their families and carers.

Role: Office and Events Coordinator Intern
Reporting to: Sue King
Location: Support 4 Sight, 17 Cottage Place, Chelmsford, CM1 1NL
Salary: Based on the Real Living Wage
Contract type: Fixed Term, 9 month contract (Oct 2025-June 2026), Part time, 20 hours per week: Tues-Fri 9.30am-2.30pm
Job Specification Information
Job purpose:
To facilitate the smooth running of the office and community based social activities
Key areas of responsibility:
- Office Coordination
- Ensure incoming calls and enquiries are responded to and/or triaged effectively.
- Ensure the office is well equipped, comfortable, welcoming, and well resourced.
- Implement systems to ensure the effective handling of donations (including Thank-You letters), event/activity income.
- Ensure Petty Cash and Cash Banking systems are effectively and regularly (monthly) maintained and accounted for.
- Ensure office volunteer/s are supported and supervised.
- Ensure Health & Safety protocols are adhered to by all staff, volunteers and visitors to the office.
- Events Coordination
- Liaise with external organisations, individuals and volunteers to coordinate coffee mornings, social trips, activities and events (including annual Low Vision Exhibitions).
- Ensure the activities are effectively communicated and promoted
- Ensure the activities are accurately priced, and handle payments from service users to the charity.
- Instruct volunteers as required for specific activities.
- Ensure Health & Safety protocols are implemented at all times.
- MOT Assessments/Equipment demonstrations/IAG
- Assess needs and demonstrate equipment/visual aids; providing support for their use.
- Provide information, advice, guidance and support on issues relating to sight loss to beneficiaries and signpost to the charity’s other services, as well as external partners/organisations.
- General
- Support training and fundraising activities as required.
- Monitor outcomes and maintain the charity CRM database.
- Provide service-related correspondence and communication.
- Handle sensitive information, such as database inputting, and ensure confidential enquiries are handled and stored in accordance with GDPR.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety policy and lone working policy.
- Provide statistical reports when required.
- Positively and pro-actively take on other duties as may from time to time be required to support colleagues, volunteers, management team and trustees.
Personal specification
This post has a Genuine Occupational Requirement that the successful applicant be a person who is blind or partially sighted, in line with The Equality Act 2010
- Willingness to travel to the TPT Hub in London for intern development events throughout the course of the internship programme (costs covered by TPT).
- Having not previously undertaken the Get Set Progress internship programme.
- Lived experience of sight loss
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate with a wide range of different people and with different communication needs.
- Excellent administration and organisational skills
- Fluent in Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite,
- CRM experience
- Willingness to travel to various locations across mid and west Essex to support activities and events
- A keenness to be part of a small, mutually supportive team
- Interest and passion for the charity sector, especially for supporting people with sight loss to be able to lead the lives they want to lead.
