Support 4 Sight provides a Low Vision service at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow via a referral from your GP or Optician.
We also offer low vision support at our Chelmsford hub, coffee mornings and home visits.
Our low vision services have a wide range of equipment to help visually impaired people of all ages. This usually includes finding out what you would like to do with the sight you have; whether it is reading, cooking or some other activity, there is equipment available to help you.
We will take our time to work with you in looking at magnifiers to find one that works best for you. However we understand that not everyone gets on with a magnifier and we will go through available choices, from solutions that make use of remaining sight to those that make use of other senses such as sound or touch.
Sunlight can have a damaging effect on our vision if allowed to pass through the lens of the eye and on to the retina. Anti-glare Sunglasses which protect vision by filtering out ultra violet and blue light are available to help prevent this.
We will take time to provide information about other aids, such as large buttoned telephones, talking watches, and liquid level indicators to help increase your choices and the control you have over your independence. All magnifiers and independent living aids can be purchased from us.
Our low vision practitioner at Princess Alexandra Hospital will also liaise with the medical staff to answer any queries you may have and assist with the completion of CVI’s (Certificate of Visual Impairment). Appointments for the Low Vision clinic at Princess Alexandra Hospital where magnifiers and anti-glare glasses can be dispensed free of charge, can only be made through referral from your GP or optician.
