Brian joined us in 2025.
I first became involved with Support 4 Sight after I retired in 2017 from a career in computing that spanned from paper tape and punched cards up to the World Wide Web.
I was looking for volunteering opportunities local to me in Chelmsford as by then I had insufficiently good eyesight to drive, and the Chelmsford Volunteering Centre introduced me to Support 4 Sight.
I have been assisting where I can since then in various ways and have been privileged to meet many service users.
I have worn glasses or contact lenses since the age of three, pretty much as soon as I could tell an optician which direction the lines on the wall were pointing.
In the last 15 years I have been diagnosed with Glaucoma and have lost a lot of peripheral vision. First Cataract op in November 2024, the second due in December 2025.
Luckily I still have enough sight to allow me to cycle around, to help our Chelmsford Coffee Mornings and Lunch Club.
I hope to be able to make a difference for visually impaired people in west and central Essex as a Trustee of Support4Sight and would welcome any comments, advice or questions at brian@support4sight.org.uk.
