Support 4 Sight is once again delighted to have received a sight loss sector industry award for the second consecutive year!
Visionary is the umbrella support organisation for sight loss charities across the UK. Last year Support 4 Sight was one of the winners of the Rainbow Award for its innovative and collaborative delivery of online social groups. This year the Essex charity won the Connect Award in recognition of its Support 4 Employment service.
Support 4 Employment has assisted over 180 people in Essex to find or retain employment, build knowledge of their rights in the job seeking marketplace and confidence to pursue their ambitions within it. Its Pre-Employment Programme is now being rolled out with Visionary partners across the UK, and it is hoped it will provide a model to assist people nationwide to not only realise work opportunities but to build confidence, digital dexterity and independence, whilst raising awareness and changing attitudes amongst employers.
Sharon Schaffer, CEO, Support 4 Sight said, “Currently only 27% of blind and partially sighted people in the UK are in work. Our Support 4 Employment service aims to remedy this by working with both employers and vision impaired job seekers to change this appalling statistic.”
Zsuzsanna Szabo, Support 4 Sight’s Employment Manager said, “This award not only gives national recognition to our service but also a great example of how working together with sight loss charities across the country is a must to ensure that working age blind and partially sighted people are getting the right support and advice, regardless of where they live.”
