Visual Awareness Training

Running alongside the Disability Awareness Training we also offer Visual Awareness Training. This is an in depth programme dealing with sight loss alone. The aim is to not only to improve awareness, but also confidence dealing with visually impaired people.

The course covers:
Eye conditions
The emotional impact of sight loss
Communication
Guiding techniques
Environment awareness
Legislation

Part of the programme is based on experiential learning and simulation glasses are used to demonstrate different eye conditions. Delegates are asked to wear them whilst undertaking simple tasks in order to give a greater insight into life as a visually impaired person.

A section of the training is dedicated to practical exercises and guiding techniques, particularly helpful if you have visually impaired clients. The delegate will learn how to guide a visually impaired person discretely and respectfully whilst also experiencing being guided themselves.

The course is very much tailored to the organisation’s specific needs and can run from anything between 1 hour and 3 hours. We offer both individual, one on one training or group sessions. Either is available in Saffron Walden or at your own premises.

On completion of the course, you will receive an individual certificate and an organisational certificate as appropriate.
