Being diagnosed with an eye condition can be difficult to come to terms with, and everyone reacts differently. It can be an extremely confusing and uncertain time and, in many cases, emotionally traumatic not just for the patient but for their family.
Eye clinic staff are often unable to provide the emotional and practical support their patients’ need. The ECLO can help provide this essential support.
Working alongside our ECLOs are many trained and valuable volunteers who are there to provide the support that is needed. Many of our staff and volunteers are visually impaired themselves so can offer empathetic support.
At the clinics we have items of equipment that can be demonstrated and then if required these can be purchased. We also have many leaflets that can be taken away regarding many different eye conditions.
We currently have staff and volunteers in Broomfield Hospital (Chelmsford), Braintree Community Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow), Saffron Walden Community Hospital and Addenbrookes (Cambridge).
