Local MP becomes Charity Patron
Saffron Walden and Chelmsford based charity Support 4 sight are delighted to announce that Kemi Badenoch MP for Saffron Walden constituency, has agreed to become the charity’s Patron alongside their current Patron Lady Braybrooke.
Kemi recently paid a visit to the charity’s Resource Centre in George Street, Saffron Walden on the morning of the 24th November and met a selection of staff, volunteers and trustees.
Having learnt of how the charity serves and supports over 4,000 vision impaired people and carers in West & Central Essex and surrounding areas, she took the opportunity to review the range of equipment that is available to assist users to maintain their independence, discussed with members of staff how the charity operates a carers and befriending service before she was then taken for a brief guided walk around the local area wearing a pair of Sim Specs which replicate how someone with visual impairment sees the world.
Kemi Badenoch MP commented “Huge thanks to Support 4 Sight for hosting me at their office in Saffron Walden and showing me the fantastic work they do in supporting local people to cope with sight loss. The glasses you see me wearing in the photo are used to simulate sight loss and give people an insight into what it’s really like –just one of the things that this brilliant charity is doing to raise awareness of the realities of living with sight difficulties.”
Chief Executive Gary Hyams commented “Kemi showed a real and genuine interest in the charity and how it supports local residents with sight loss issues and her willingness to become a patron reflects how she has become so actively involved in the local community since her election in June 2017.”
